Sustainability in Alpine tourism
The sustainable development of Alpine tourism is a key issue for the future. grischconsulta recognised the importance of this issue at an early stage and has been in charge of managing the ibex fairstay sustainability label, the seal of quality for sustainability in the accommodation industry, since 2007.
In 2010, grischconsulta addressed the issue of energy efficiency for mountain railways in its study “Energiemanagement Bergbahnen” (Energy Management for Mountain Railways) and provided practical guidance. The study shows how mountain ropeways can take action in four key areas:
- Reducing energy consumption: maximising energy efficiency
- Purchasing energy more cheaply: optimising purchasing / peak load management
- Producing energy yourself: energy recovery / alternative energy sources
- Using energy measures as a marketing tool
A ProKilowatt subsidy programme for mountain ropeways is now in its third year. In this programme, mountain ropeways companies can apply for subsidies for four different measures that increase energy efficiency (replacement of drive motors, demand-based operation, replacement of snow guns, intelligent shaft heating).
